While it is out-classed by the next two tiers, it is important at the start of a track to gain an early lead before any Turbo Pads have shown up. It's acquired by chaining three Perfect Power Slide Turbos in a single power slide, using a normal Turbo Power-Up, or big Hang-Time Turbos. Orange Turbo is shown with orange fire, and gives a good speed increase. While it does make you faster, it's not much better than your base speed. Red Turbo is aquired from single Power Slide Turbos, as well as small Hang-Time Turbos. Red Turbo is indicated by red exhaust fire, and provides a minimal speed increase. It's not fast, and any expert player will never have this while racing. As a rule of thumb, you DO NOT want to be in this state. You're going at base speed and run the risk of being overtaken if anyone is nearby. White Smoke from the exhaust means you have no Turbo. What makes CTR unique here is that Power Slides let you to adjust the curve of your turn with the left stick or D-Pad, making it either wider or tighter. When making your way through a corner, you'll want to come as close to the apex as possible. At expert levels of play, minimizing the distance your kart travels down the track can make the difference, even when going down straights. While CTR may not look like Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport, there's one area that is crucial to getting around a turn, and that's your racing line.
